The University of Houston-Victoria Jaguars softball team broke into the Top 10 of the NAIA Softball Coaches’ Top 25 Poll on Tuesday.
It is the first time for a Jaguars softball team to be ranked in the top 10 in the four short years of the program.
The Jaguars (26-12) moved up two spots from last week’s No. 12 ranking as they recorded 421 points in this week’s voting. Brenau University (Ga.) was in at No. 9 with 457 points, having fallen four spots from No. 5. Lubbock Christian University is right behind UHV at No. 11 with 397 points.
California Baptist University (48-2) again received all 22 first-place votes to remain at the top spot for the 20th straight time with 622 points. William Carey (Miss.) also remained at No. 2 with 602 points, while California State University-San Marcos, one of the Jaguars’ conference foes, moved from No. 4 to no. 3 with 572 points.
Central Baptist College (Ark.), another foe of the Jaguars, moved from No. 6 to No. 5.
UHV, CSUSM and CBC will all participate in the Association of Independent Institutions Conference Tournament set for May 5-7 with Cal State-San Marcos playing host to the event. Also in the tournament field will be Patten University, Simon Fraser and the University of British Columbia.
