The University of Houston-Victoria was recognized Thursday evening with three prestigious ADDY Awards for advertising creative excellence in projects related to the university’s annual report and Jaguars Military Appreciation Day.
“Creativity is key in getting the university’s marketing work noticed by the public,” Marketing Director John Ellis said. “I am pleased that the Marketing team was recognized for producing creative pieces that showcase UHV and its numerous successes during the past year.”
UHV won one silver and two bronze ADDYs at the American Advertising Federation-Victoria ADDY Awards Gala in the UHV Multi-Purpose Room. The silver award recognized printed pieces for UHV’s 2009-2010 Annual Report. The bronze ADDYs were for the university’s “A Year of FIRSTS” 2009-2010 Annual Report website (www.UHVAnnualReport.com) and a poster advertising Military Appreciation Day at the April 16 Jaguars baseball game.
Members of the Marketing Department who worked together on the projects include Ellis, Communications Manager Paula Cobler, former Creative Services Manager Steven Nickel, graphic designers Melody Vecera and Cari Laza, communications specialist Ken Cooke, Internet technician Harry Bashaw and administrative secretary Lisa Vasquez.
The local ADDY awards are the first level of a three-tiered, national competition conducted by the American Advertising Federation. Local ADDY competitions across the nation attract more than 50,000 entries every year. In the second tier, local winners compete against other winners in one of 14 district competitions. District winners are then forwarded to the third tier, the national ADDY Awards competition.
The awards are the advertising industry’s largest and most representative competition for creative excellence.
