Several University of Houston-Victoria Small Business Development Center staff members recently earned certifications to help them enhance client services in import, export and global trade.

SBDC Director Joe Humphreys earned the SBDC Global Director Certification. Business advisors Mark Martinez, Brian Cunningham and Lindsay Young earned SBDC Global Trade Consultant Certification. Young, Associate Director Lisa Barr and business advisor Kacey Lindemann Butler also were certified through the SBA Export and Trade Counseling Program.

“It is important for small businesses to be active in the global marketplace,” Humphreys said. “The certifications our business advisors hold elevate the service level we can provide our clients. We are equipped with the knowledge and resources needed to help area businesses succeed internationally.”

The SBDC Global Trade Consultant Certification is a professional development program for center directors and business advisers. It provides information and resources needed to assist clients in international trade assistance and is offered by SBDCGlobal.com and the International Trade Center San Antonio.

The SBA Export and Trade Counseling Certification program offers education in trade assistance resources for small businesses and key aspects of global trade. The SBA certification program is in collaboration with the Trade Promotion Coordinating Committee.

The UHV SBDC offers assistance on starting, growing and financing a business; contracting opportunities; and recovering from disaster. Most of its services are free to area small business owners in Aransas, Bee, Calhoun, DeWitt, Gonzales, Goliad, Jackson, Karnes, Lavaca, Refugio and Victoria counties. It is part of a nationwide small business assistance program serving the small business community and federal, state and local governments.
