Appendix C-26: Library Risk Analysis Profile
Revised: June 6, 2012
The major functions of the VC/UHV Library in its mission to satisfy the information and research needs of the University of Houston-Victoria are:
Maintain a web site for access to library materials and services from any site with an Internet connection
- Collect and house materials for information and research needs
- Circulate materials to students, faculty, staff, and the general public
- Provide study areas and in-house computers for patron use
- Maintain and house United States and Texas documents
- Provide a Regional History Center for patron use
- Provide Interlibrary Loan services for students, faculty, and staff
The critical task needed first is:
- Provide access to the library web site
Secondary tasks needed are:
- Circulation of materials
- Providing study areas and in-house computers for patron use
Other services that can be delayed are:
- Collection and processing of new materials
- Interlibrary Loan
- Regional History Center access
- United States and Texas Documents access
Immediately following the business interruption, the following personnel would have to be on site or at the alternate location:
- Sr. Director of Libraries
- Sr. Administrative Secretary
- Webmaster
- Head of Public Services
- Networking Manager
- Head of Technical Services
Emergency equipment needs:
- A server to function as the library web site location (with Internet access)
The impact of the disruption of library services would affect the ability of students, faculty, and staff to access research materials. Subscription full-text databases, electronic reserve materials, and the online catalog would be unavailable until the library web site was restored. Critical to the recovery of library services is the regular back up of the library web server and off-site storage of the backup.
