Risk Analysis / Impact Analysis
General Analysis:
Given the operating conditions and assumptions within this Business Continuity Plan, the University has the following strengths and weaknesses:
Strengths:
- Many key support services are at least partially administered through the UH System, including payroll, personnel actions, and computer mainframe support.
- All computer records, both mainframe and LAN are backed-up off site and should be readily accessible if the interruption is confined to the UHV campus and if PCs are available.
- Many tasks are not time constrained and therefore there is some degree of flexibility as to when and where these tasks need to be done.
- Some of the University’s key tasks can be reconfigured and can be accomplished from home locations.
- Information Technology has a system of servers hosting key applications. If one server goes down, only that application is affected.
Weaknesses:
- Teaching tasks are time constrained.
- There is a total lack of off-site and/or pre-positioned supplies and equipment for the University.
- At present, considerable time may be required to locate and set up alternate operational and teaching sites since the availability of possible alternate sites is not guaranteed or confirmed.
- Information Technology, the access and delivery of electronically stored data and records, is extremely critical to almost the entire agency’s daily operational tasks.
