Recognizing the growing need for qualified healthcare administrators, SoBA is currently seeking approval to offer a new BBA concentration in Healthcare Administration. This program will be of most interest to:

  • Persons seeking licensure as Nursing Facility Administrators;
  • Persons interested in managing a medical services practice;
  • Persons working in healthcare who would like to advance their careers;
  • Mid-career professionals working in healthcare administration who do not have baccalaureate degrees;
  • Licensed nurses who would like to enter the healthcare administration field but do not have baccalaureate degrees;
  • Licensed nurses seeking licensure as long-term care administrators; and
  • Mid-career and displaced adults seeking career changes.

The primary educational objective of the proposed Healthcare Administration program is to teach the knowledge and skills required for success as a medical and health services manager. A secondary educational objective of the proposed program is to satisfy the increasing need for healthcare administrators in the long-term healthcare field. The educational structure of the program recognizes the growing need for healthcare administrators across the United States, and especially for licensed nursing facility administrators in the rapidly growing assisted-living and nursing home fields. The course offerings of this healthcare concentration would allow students to become licensed nursing facility administrators in any state of the United States as well as Canada.

This program will be available in Spring 2007 subject to approval by the University of Houston System and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.
