Student Ambassadors
Beginning fall 2008, the School of Business Administration at UHV will employ several graduate assistants each semester, based on need, through our Student Ambassador Program. The Student Ambassador Program exists to help new international students, primarily in our graduate programs, and visiting international scholars become acclimated to Texas and the university. Student ambassadors assist international students and visiting scholars with completing course registration and tuition payment, purchasing textbooks, arranging airport transportation, obtaining housing, applying for drivers' licenses and Social Security numbers, establishing bank and utility accounts, and purchasing groceries. They also assist with international student orientations as well as social and cultural events throughout the semester.
These positions require excellent oral and written communication skills and strong interpersonal skills. Each student ambassador must be a returning UHV student who has completed at least one full semester of coursework, and must have a valid Texas driver's license and a reliable car. Because of the nature of the assistance ambassadors provide, international relocation experience is strongly preferred, as is fluency in a language other than English; current demand is for Mandarin. The positions are based at the University of Houston System at Cinco Ranch, and travel throughout Fort Bend and surrounding counties is required.
Fall 2008 student ambassadors will begin work on August 4.
Student ambassadors are required to devote approximately 300 hours each semester to their assignment while maintaining enrollment in graduate coursework, and are expected to devote their time and services solely to their graduate studies and the Student Ambassador Program. Ambassadors should expect to work 30 to 40 hours a week for two to three weeks prior to the start of the semester, and for one to two weeks after the semester begins. Weekly work requirements from that point will be lighter.
