Completing Assessments & Quizzes:
This section explains the process for completing an online assessment or quiz, viewing
previous submissions, and viewing assessment statistics. There are three types of assessments:
- Quiz (graded)
- Self-Test (not graded)
- Surveys
The information provided below depicts the process for completing a quiz (the process for
completing self-tests and surveys are similar).
- On the course home page, select Assessments under
Course Tools.

- On the Assessments screen, click the title of the assessment to start.
- Review the general information about the assessment; it might contain important instructions. Click
Begin Assessment when you are ready to start.

- An Assessment window pops up (see below).

- The question types in Blackboard include the following:
- Calculation
- Combination
- Fill in the Blank
- Jumbled Sentence
- Matching
- Multiple Choice
- Paragraph
- Short Answer
- True or False
- Answer each question and click Save Answer before moving on to the next
question. The question status will display on the right-side of the screen.
- After completing all the questions, click Finish to exit the assessment.
- A message pops up like the one depicted below. Select OK to confirm
your submission (see below).

- A confirmation message will display confirming successful submission of
the assessment.
The information provided below explains how to view the assessment and quizzes that you have submitted.
- To view your previous submissions, click the View All Submissions option
on the Assessment screen (see below).

- The status of your previous submissions will be listed. If the assessment is already
graded, the grade will be displayed on this screen (see below).

- Click on the hyperlink available under the Time column
(see above) to view the
access log information. The assessment details (see below) may help you review your performance during the assessment.

The information provided below explains how to access and use the assessment summary statistics information.
You can view summary or item statistics. The summary statistics compare your performance to the group
performance for each submitted assessment and consists of the following
- Item statistics compare your performance to Individual Performance
analysis, including values for Max. Score (maximum score possible),
Score (score achieved), Score % (score as a
percentage), and Percentile (proportion of scores the individual's
score is greater than or equal to).
- Group Performance analysis, including values for N
(number of students who have taken the quiz), Mean (mean as a
percentage), Median (middle score as a percentage), and SD
(standard deviation).
Item statistics compare your performance to the group performance for each question in your
submitted assessments and consist of the following:
- Individual Performance analysis on a question-by-question basis,
including values for Max. Score (maximum score possible), Score
(score achieved), and Score % (score as a percentage).
- Group Performance analysis on a question-by-question basis, including
values for N (number of students who have answered the question), Mean
(mean as percentage), Median (middle score for a question as a percentage), and
SD (standard deviation).
- From the Assessments screen, click the View Statistics
option (see below).

- Select the assessment for which you want to view statistics and choose one of the following:
- To view summary statistics, select the View Summary Statistics option.
- To view item statistics, select the View Item Statistics option.
