  • 12-08-2011 @ 5:45 PM – Issue with UHV Blackboard Vista 8 System Has Been Resolved

    UHV has received confirmation from the issue with UHV Blackboard Vista 8 System has been resolved. Blackboard Vista 8 System is now available.

  • 12-08-2011 @ 4:45 PM – UHV Faculty & Students Reporting Issues with Blackboard Vista 8 System

    The UH Main Campus is investigating issues reported by faculty and students that the Blackboard Vista 8 system is slow or unresponsive. End users are reporting slow response times or unresponsiveness in the system. UH Main Campus technicians and engineers are investigating the issue. UH Main Campus suggests users try logging out, clearing their browser’s cache, and logging back into the system to improve response rates. Currently, there is no estimate as to when the issue will be resolved. Please continue to monitor this website for updates and the latest status of this issue. We apologize for any inconvenience.

  • UPDATE – 12-07-2011 @ 6:30 AM – Issue with the UHV TurnItIn PowerLink in Blackboard Vista 8 Has Been Resolved

    UHV has received confirmation from the TurnItIn vendor that they have resolved the issue experienced by faculty and adjuncts yesterday using the TurnItIn PowerLink in the Blackboard Vista 8 system. UHV faculty and adjuncts reported not being able to see report submissions and seeing an error message indicating the UHV TurnItIn license had expired. TurnItIn confirmed there was an issue on their end processing the UHV license renewal and this caused the service interruption. TurnItIn has resolved the issue and no additional service interruptions are expected. TurnItIn has apologized for the inconvenience.

  • UPDATE – 12-06-2011 @ 3:30 PM – UHV Has Requested a Status Update from TurnItIn Regarding Blackboard PowerLink Issue

    UHV is still waiting to receive an update from TurnItIn regarding the Blackboard PowerLink Issue reported at 10:30 a.m. today. As of this announcement, we have not yet received official word from TurnItIn that the issue has been resolved and/or when we can expect the issue to be resolved. TurnItIn states that they typically provide responses within 24 hours of an issue being reported, so if UHV doesn’t receive an update from TurnItIn today, we should receive one tomorrow. Please continue to monitor this website for the latest information and updates regarding this issue. We apologize for any inconvenience.

  • 12-06-2011 @ 10:30 AM – UHV Instructors Experiencing Issue with TurnItIn PowerLink in Blackboard

    UHV faculty and adjuncts are reporting issues using the iParadigm’s TurnItIn powerlink in the Blackboard Vista 8 system. Instructors are reporting that they are not able to access submission information for TurnItIn assignments. Error message indicates account has expired. The TurnItIn Account Manager and TurnItIn account information indicates the account doesn’t expire until 12-03-2012, so at this time it’s unknown as to what may be causing the issue. A ticket has been opened with TurnItIn and the TurnItIn Account Manager has been contacted. UHV is also checking with the UH Main Campus to confirm there are no problems with the UHV PowerLinks installed on the Blackboard Vista 8 system. We hope to have the issue resolved soon and apologize for any inconvenience. Please visit this site for additional updates.

  • 12-01-2011 @ 6:30 AM: UH Main Campus Network Issues Resolved – UHV Blackboard System Available:

    At approximately 10:45 p.m. yesterday, November 30, 2011, the UH Main Campus resolved the network issue affecting the UHV Blackboard system. UHV students and faculty are able to log into the Blackboard system via the http://www.uhv.edu/blackboard/ and https://learn.uh.edu/webct/ websites. At this time, no additional service interruptions are expected, but please check this website for additional updates. We apologize for any inconvenience.

  • 11-30-2011 @ 3:45 PM: UH Main Campus Network Issues Continue to Affect UHV Blackboard System:

    The UH Main Campus continues to experience network issues. This is preventing access to the UHV Blackboard system. Currently, students and faculty are not able to access the UHV Blackboard system via the http://www.uhv.edu/blackboard/ website or the https://learn.uh.edu/webct/ website.     Students and faculty are reporting issues logging into the UHV Blackboard system. The UH Main Campus is currently experiencing network issues, which is affecting the UHV Blackboard system.   • Blackboard Users Experiencing Problems with Chat Should Use Java Version 1.6.0_26 (6u26):

    If you are experiencing issues with Chat rooms or the Chat tool in Blackboard where you receive a “Session has expired” message or your chat session randomly expires and you have to log back in, Blackboard recommends checking the version of Java installed on your computer. If you are using Java Version 1.6.0_29 (6u29) and you’re experiencing Chat issues, Blackboard recommends uninstalling this version and using the older 1.6.0_26 (6u26) Version of Java.

    Blackboard System Restored and Available The UH Main Campus reports that the power outage issue has been resolved and the Blackboard system has been restored and is once again available to all users. Administrators and technicians are still investigating the cause of the power outage, but no additional service interruptions are expected. Once again, we apologize for any inconvenience the earlier power outage may have caused.

    The UH Main Campus is reporting a power outage affecting the Blackboard system. Currently, the Blackboard system is unavailable to all users. System analysts and administrators are working to resolve the issue and hope to have the system available again soon. We apologize for any inconvenience. Spring 2010 Semester:

  • Java Issues with Firefox 3.6.14

    A bug has been identified in Firefox 3.6.14 that causes many Java applets to break, including those in Blackboard Vista. Users received the Firefox 3.6.14 update sometime around March 1, 2011. Firefox users should upgrade to Firefox 3.6.15 as soon as possible to resolve this issue.

  • UPDATE - 10:30 AM – 02/09/2011 – UHV Blackboard System is Available

    The UHV Blackboard system is once again available to all users. No additional interruptions are planned. Please refer back to this website for the latest information regarding Blackboard and the status of any issues.

  • 6:30 AM – 02/09/2011 – UHV Blackboard System Unavailable

    The UH Main Campus reports a power loss in the Computing Center, which has affected the UHV Blackboard system. The UHV Blackboard system is currently unavailable. Technicians are working to restore service and bring the affected systems back online. The UHV Blackboard system should be available shortly. Additional information and updates will be made available on this website. Please check this website for the latest updates on this issue. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

  • REMINDER – UHV Students Log into Blackboard with UHV Network ID Information

    Blackboard Username = 7-digit UHV Student ID (e.g., 0123456) Blackboard Password = same password used to access UHV email, lab computers and library databases.

    Students should first log into their UHV e-mail account (UHV e-mail) BEFORE logging into Blackboard to verify their password is not expired.

    If you’ve forgotten your password, you may contact the UHV IT Help Desk at 361-570-4399 or 1-877-970-4848, X-4399 or use the separate UHV IDHelp website to reset your forgotten password via the https://idhelp.uhv.edu website.

Fall 2010 Semester:

  • Change to Blackboard Login for Faculty - Effective 8:00 a.m., December 16, 2010

    After 8:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 16, 2010, UHV faculty and adjuncts will log into the UHV Blackboard website (available from the two URL addresses provided below) with their UHV account username and password instead of their 7-digit UHV ID and the separate password maintained in the Blackboard system.

    This UHV account that faculty and adjuncts use is the same account they currently use to log into office computers, access e-mail from the UHV website, and access library databases off campus.

    For more information and specific details, please review the e-mail sent to UHV faculty and adjuncts on December 10, 2010 from UHV IT.

  • UPDATE – 12/06/2010 @ 1:30 PM – UHV’s TurnItIn Assignment Feature is Available Again

    The UHV TurnItIn Assignment features is now working and is available again. UHV faculty can now create new TurnItIn Assignment drop boxes for students to submit assignments. We apologize for any inconvenience the service disruption may have caused. We do not expect any additional service interruptions.

    The UHV Student Opinion Survey is now available. Please take this opportunity to let us know what you think about your experience at UHV.

  • UHV Adopting Four-Letter Course Prefix Abbreviations:
    UHV will be adopting new four-letter course prefix abbreviations beginning this Fall 2010. For additional information, please review the information provided by UHV Student Solutions.

  • 5:00 PM – 06/03/2010 – Password Resets/Changes Require 15 Minutes to Take Effect:
    UHV students have reported delays with password resets and changes to their single account/password information and the Blackboard system. Network administrators have investigated the issue and there is a delay with when the new password information takes effect in the Blackboard system. We recommend students wait 15 minutes before attempting to log into the Blackboard system with their new password information.

Spring 2010 Blackboard Announcements (see below)

Spring 2010 Semester:
  • Blackboard recommends delaying the update of Java to Version 6.19. Users should continue to use older versions of Java for now. Java Version 6.19 displays a warning dialog box in Blackboard (see below)


    Users who are running Java Version 6.19 will see the above message when they: (1) log into Blackboard, (2) enable the HTML Creator tool, (3) enable the Chat tool, (4) click the MyComputer icon, or (5) try to use the Who's Online tool.

    Users can confirm their current version of Java by visiting the http://www.javatester.org/version.html website. Users running Java Version 6.19 should uninstall this version and re-install with a previous version. Previous Java versions are available from the Java download archive page at http://java.sun.com/products/archive/. On the archive page, look for the Java Platform Standard Edition (Java SE) option and select a previous release.

    Users who haven't upgraded to Java Version 6.19 can disable their Java automatic updates. Instructions are available from Java at: http://java.com/en/download/help/java_update.xml.

    For Blackboard Vista tools to work with Java Version 6.19, users must click No in the security warning message depicted above. If a user clicks "Yes" or closes the dialog box, the Blackboard tools will not work.

  • UPDATE: 12:00 Noon - 03/22/2010 - UHV Spring 2010 8 Week 2 Student Enrollments Completed: The issue preventing UHV SP10 8W2 students from being enrolled into their online Blackboard courses has been resolved. Students have been successfully enrolled and SP10 8W2 online courses are now available to all students.

    7:00 AM - 03/22/2010 - UHV Spring 2010 8 Week 2 Student Enrollments Not Available in Blackboard: The process to enroll UHV SP10 8 Week 2 students into their Blackboard courses did not complete. UHV students who enrolled in SP10 8W2 online courses to begin 03/22/2010 may not be able to access their courses yet. The UH Main Campus is investigating the issue and access should be made available to students shortly. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

    All Prospective UHV Graduates - Spring 2010 Graduation Application Deadline:

  • Blackboard Weekly Server Maintenance Changed From 4:00-8:00 AM Each Friday To 2:00-6:00 AM: A change has been made to the time that the Blackboard Vista 8 system will be unavailable to all users for server maintenance. Server maintenance will continue to run each Friday, but it will now run from 2:00-6:00 AM instead of 4:00-8:00 AM. Users will not be able to access the Blackboard system during the maintenance period.

    Blackboard users are reporting that they are sending e-mail messages within the Blackboard system, but recipients are not receiving the messages. Blackboard administrators and technicians are investigating this issue and hope to have the problem resolved soon. Additional updates will be provided.

  • UHV students will not be able to access their online summer courses in the Blackboard system until the first day of class (Monday, June 1, 2009).

  • UHV students and faculty who want to access the old WebCT system can access the system via the following options: (1) clicking on the Incomplete Courses button located on the new Blackboard Login page (http://www.uhv.edu/blackboard/) or (2) typing the https://scholar.uh.edu/webct/ URL in their web browser, selecting the University of Houston - Victoria option, and clicking the Log In button and accessing the system.

  • UHV Jaguar Card:
