Talented communicators are a rare and hot commodity these
days. Think about it. Websites, emails, billboards, brochures, news reports,
public announcements, strategic marketing plans, procedural manuals, event
promotions, and legal contracts are just a few of the many vehicles used by
industries to promote effective communication within organizations and with the
general public.
A Bachelor of Arts degree in Humanities-English with a Technical Writing
concentration provides you with an education that can be valuable in a wide
range of career fields in educational institutions, advertising agencies, radio
and TV broadcasting, public relations firms, business and nonprofit
organizations, government agencies and professional associations.
As a writer, you could write for book publishers, magazines, trade journals,
newspapers, online sites, company newsletters, radio and TV, movies, and
advertisements. Job positions include news writer, journalist, technical writer,
and copywriter.
As an editor, you might select and prepare material for publication or
broadcast. You may also review, rewrite, and edit a writer's work. Common
positions include executive editor, managing editor, assistant editor, copy
editor, book production editor, and publication assistant.
The UHV program can also provide you with a background for graduate work, which
can lead to a junior college or university teaching position.
