Undergraduate Programs: Computer Science Concentration

Secondary teacher certification for this degree program is offered in all three locations: Victoria, Sugar Land and Cinco Ranch.

The Bachelor of Science in Computer Science with Computer Science Concentration from UHV is designed for students with one of three goals:

  • To work as a computer programmer, systems analyst or software engineer
  • To teach computer science on the secondary level
  • To pursue graduate studies in computer science, computer information systems or a related area

The computer science program emphasizes the development of the skills and analytical abilities necessary to specify, design, develop and manage computer-based solutions to commercial, scientific and industrial problems, and also to provide system level support and development. Easy access to state of-the-art computer facilities and software is available to all students in the program.

Our CS Concentration is a general Computer Science degree that exposes students to all the main areas of the field, including various aspects of programming, software engineering, computer organization, structure of programming languages, data base, operating systems and discrete mathematics. Students have opportunities to further their knowledge in more advanced and specialized subjects through concentration courses and electives in computer architecture, computer graphics, software project management, artificial intelligence, telecommunication & networks, numerical analysis, computer security, Java, Internet and Intranet, just to name a few areas. Students can find employment in a variety of organizations, both commercial and governmental. Some continue in Computer Science graduate work.

The lower division courses required include Calculus I and II and 6 hours of programming selected from Pascal, C/C++, Java, or Ada with at least 3 hours in C/C++ Programming (preferably 6).
