The Academic Center will offer face-to-face workshops and presentations during some semesters. Dates, times, and locations for presentations are posted here.

 

No face-to-face workshops or presentations are currently scheduled.

 

Additionally, the center offers online workshops or presentations that can be worked through or viewed at your convenience. These workshops or presentations may be web-based or Power Point presentations.

 

Power Point presentations contain audio.  The Power Point presentations may require the installation of Java. (Free and available from http://java.sun.com/products/archive/j2se/1.4.2_06/index.html.)

Researching and Documentation Style (Citing)

 

Documenting Sources Using APA Format

Cheryl Kuretsch, Academic Center peer tutor, created this presentation that discusses general guidelines to APA style, explains APA references pages, and offers information about parenthetical citations. Katie Moody provides the audio for the presentation. This presentation is not intended to be a complete reference to APA style, but it does provide guidelines for the most common elements used by students writing research papers. Documenting Sources Using MLA Format

Understanding Plagiarism

(A Power Point presentation with audio.  15 slides.  Approximately 30 minutes.)

Lisa Bullock originally delivered a version of this presentation in 2004.  This revised and updated presentation, voiced by Katie Moody, defines plagiarism, suggests why some students plagiarize, indicates common forms that plagiarism takes, and shares how readers know when writers are plagiarizing.  The presentation also indicates why citation is important and lists other Academic Center resources related to avoiding plagiarism, researching, and writing.
 

Writing Academic Proposals

(A Power Point presentation with audio.  24 slides.

Approximately 40 minutes.)

This presentation by Jennifer Mond, Academic Center peer tutor, discusses academic proposals as persuasive documents.  Mond provides an example proposal and discusses each section within the sample proposal, focusing on the purpose of each section and on strategies for success.  Katie Moody provides the audio for this presentation.
