| Frequently Asked
Questions:
Diagnostic Education Certification Exams
Who gives the test?
The Academic Center offers the Diagnostic Education Certification
Exams on behalf of the School of Education and Human Development.
In fact, the Academic Center offers a variety of services to UHV students
including face-to-face and online writing assistance, subject-area
assistance, and testing services. For more information about the Center
and its services, visit our website at http://www.uhv.edu/ac
or stop by University West, Suite 129.
Do I need an appointment? Who do I contact?
An appointment is absolutely necessary. Space and testing times are
limited; however, if you plan in advance, you should find many appointment
times available. Generally, the Center begins one test session at
8:00 a.m. and one at 1:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Additionally,
the Center usually offers one evening per week (test session begins
at 4:00 p.m.) and one Saturday per month (times vary). The testing
schedule for the month is posted on the web at http://www.uhv.edu/ac/testing/schedule.htm.
To make an appointment to take a diagnostic test, contact
Christy Esse, Academic Center Sr. Secretary. Christy will be able to answer
any questions you have that are not addressed here. She can be reached

Where do I go? What do I bring with me?
The diagnostic tests are given in the Academic Center. The Center is
located on the ground floor, Suite 129, of the University West building
in the new addition.
On the day of the exam all you will need to bring with you is photo
identification. You should not bring any electronic communication
devices. Other materials (paper, pencil, etc.) will be provided by
the test proctor and will need to be turned in at the conclusion of
the exam. Please leave your cellular phone in your vehicle.
What should I do if I’m going to be late or cannot
keep my scheduled appointment?
Call the Academic Center. If you cannot make your appointment, please
call the Center to cancel. There are other students who could possibly
use the appointment that you can’t keep. If you will be a little
late (less than 10 minutes), call the Center—they may be able
to hold your seat for a few minutes. If you do not call or are more
than 15 minutes late, you forfeit your appointment time and will not
be allowed to test.
What happens after the test? When do I find out if I passed?
You will know your score before you leave the Center. The PPR Test
is WebCT based and will score your exam automaically. You will be
able to access all of your test attempts at any time. If you are
taking a Generalist, English 8-12 or History 8-12, when you have
finished your exam you will receive a printed copy of your
competencies/score sheet. You need to make a score of 75% or better. This
will greatly increase your chances of passing the state exam.
Contact Dr. Teresa Le Sage for
information about review sessions for the tests.
