What are Boolean operators?

Boolean operators allow you to search for combinations of keywords.

Three important Boolean operators to know are

AND- Find websites or pages that contain both words.

OR- Find websites or pages that contain either word.

NOT- Find websites or pages that contain the first word but not the second word.

Some search engines require that Boolean operators be capitalized; it’s best to check the FAQ or help files for tips.

For other information about Boolean logic, visit the Library of Congress (http://catalog.loc.gov/help/boolean.htm). VC and UHV students should also visit the VC/UHV Library's presentation on Database Search Techniques.
