Draft Your
IntroductionUse Quotations
You may want to begin with a quotation. Employ this technique with
caution because this technique is often overused. If you use it, use
a quotation that summarizes or somehow relates to the point of your
paper. After the quotation, show how it relates to your thesis.
Jupiter tells Venus of Aeneas’ destiny in Book I of the
Aenaed “Aeneas
shall fight a great war in Italy and overthrow proud peoples. He shall
establish for his warriors a way of life and walls for their defense;
and he shall live until the 3rd summer looks on his reign in Latium” (35).
The gods, the reader of the Aenaed, and Aeneas himself all know that
his destiny is to be the forefather of the Romans. In this paper,
I trace the key steps in Aeneas’ path toward his destiny.
