  Subject /Verb Agreement

Academic Center Exercises

We recommend you complete exercise 1 after you read part 1 of the Subject/Verb Agreement handout and exercise 2 after you read part 2 of the handout. Then, we suggest choosing one from exercises 3, 4, 5, and 6. Of course, you may do all the exercises if you wish for a more complete practice.

Exercise 1: In exercise one, you'll test yourself to discover how well you are able to identify the appropriate verb for each sentence. (10 sentences) An answer key is included at the end of this exercise.

Exercise 2: In exercise two, you'll correct each of the sentences by identifying its simple subject and determining whether the subject is singular or plural. (25 sentences) An answer key is included at the end of the exercise.

Exercise 3: In exercise three, you'll correct each of the sentences by identifying its simple subject and determining whether the subject is singular or plural. (20 sentences) An answer key is included at the end of the exercise.

Exercise 4: In exercise four, you'll correct each of the following sentences by identifying its simple subject and determining whether the subject is singular or plural. (20 sentences) An answer key is included at the end of the exercise.

Exercise 5: In exercise five, you'll correct each of the following sentences by identifying its simple subject and determining whether the subject is singular or plural. (20 sentences) An answer key is included at the end of the exercise.

Exercise 6: In exercise two, you'll correct each of the sentences by identifying its simple subject and determining whether the subject is singular or plural. (20 sentences) An answer key is included at the end of the exercise.

UHV students can schedule a face-to-face tutoring session with a writing tutor or contact an online tutor to discuss any of these exercises or for additional assistance.
