  Eliminating Fragments

Academic Center Exercises

We recommend you complete exercises 1, 2, and 3 in that order.

Exercise 1: This exercise requires you to identify and complete several fragments. (10 sentences) An answer key is included at the end of the exercise.

Exercise 2: This exercise includes a paragraph about Vincent Van Gogh, and your task will be more difficult. You'll need to recognize fragments when they occur within the context of a paragraph. You'll revise the paragraph so that all the fragments are eliminated, and the paragraph retains its logical flow. An answer key is included at the end of the exercise.

Exercise 3: In this exercise all punctuation has been eliminated from a paragraph. You'll need to read the paragraph carefully and provide the missing punctuation. An answer key is included at the end of the exercise.

UHV students can schedule a face-to-face tutoring session with a writing tutor or contact an online tutor to discuss any of these exercises or for additional assistance.
