  Understanding Verbs: Gerunds, Participles, & Infinitives

Academic Center Exercises

 

We recommend completing exercise 1, exercise 2, and exercise 3 as you read through Understanding Verbs: Gerunds, Participles, and Infinitives. Exercise 4 should be completed after exercises 1-3.

 

Exercise 1: In this exercise, you will underline the gerunds or gerund phrases in each of the sentences. (5 sentences) An answer key is included at the end of the exercise.

 

Exercise 2: In this exercise, you will underline the participles or participial phrases in each sentence. (5 sentences) An answer key is included at the end of the exercise.

 

Exercise 3: In this exercise, you will underline the infinitives in each sentence. (5 sentences) An answer key is included at the end of the exercise.

 

Exercise 4: In this exercise, you will underline the verbal in each sentence and indicate whether it is a gerund (G), a participle (P) or an infinitive (I). (10 sentences) An answer key is included at the end of the exercise.
