Exercise 3: Working with Problem Pairs

Part A: In this section, you will need to circle the correct preposition(s) for each sentence.

1. Since our profits are different (than, from) those of last year, we shall divide them (between, among) the ten supervisors.
   
2. Susan works (like, as) a beautician after school.
   
3. He walked (in, into) the room.
   
4. She got out of her jeep and went (in, into) the mall.
   
5. Dee Dee looks just (like, as) her mother.
   
6. (As, like) I was saying, you shouldn’t take that class next semester.
   
7. Although she is only a student, Jennifer handles herself (like, as) an experienced professional.
   
8. John should have divided the bonuses (between, among) all the workers who have contributed different ideas (than, from) the others.
   
9. Craig took the book (off of, off) the table.
   
10. Please place the trash (in, into) the basket (beside, besides) the window.

Part B: In this section, you will need to circle the prepositions that need to be eliminated to make the sentence correct. If the wrong preposition is used mark through the one used in the sentence and replace with a correct preposition.

1. Please take that binder off of the table and put it in your backpack.
2. I want for you to tell me where you will be at this evening.
3. He borrowed money off of the piggy bank.
4. Where are you going to and up until when will you stay?
5. My ideas are different than yours.
6. I got to home very late.
7. I had dinner when I came back to home
