Understanding ArticlesAcademic Center Exercises
Now it's your turn to put your knowledge to work.
Exercise
1: Filling In with Articles In
this exercise, you will fill in the blank with the appropriate article,
a, an, or the, or leave the space blank if no article is needed. An
answer key is included at the end of the exercise.
Exercise
2: Understanding Articles This exercise is composed of several
passages. As you read through the passages, insert the correct articles
(a, an,
or the) into the blanks. Keep in mind that more than one answer may
be correct for each blank depending on the meaning you want
the passages to have. An
answer key is included at the end of each passage.
Exercise
3: Writing With Articles In this exercise, you'll write your
own paragraphs. It will be up to you to
determine the proper use of articles and when and where to use them
by using the list of nouns provided. Once you have completed this
exercise, be sure to bring it to the Academic
Center so that one
of the peer writing
tutors can look over the paragraphs
or story.
UHV students can schedule a
face-to-face
tutoring session with a writing tutor
or contact an online
tutor to discuss any of these exercises or for additional
assistance.
