Using Visual Aids:
Illustrations and Photographs

The following handout details some of the most intricate and authentic visuals that writers may use to visually enhance a written document: illustrations and photographs. Keep in mind that special attention may be drawn to any given area of the visual by the use of a slanted line known as a callout. Callouts are generally used to label specific parts of a drawing, diagram, map, clip art design or photograph.
