Sandra
Heinold is Manager of the Academic Center. Sandra taught ENG 3430
when it was still COM 3330. She was the Coordinator of the
Academic Center (then known as the Communications Center) in the
late 1980s. Then she taught in the public schools until 1999. Both
her
bachelor's and master's degrees are from UHV.
Coordinator of the Academic Center - Summer Leibensperger
Summer Leibensperger is the Coordinator of the Academic Center. Summer
worked as a writing tutor at the Academic Center from Fall 1999
to Summer 2001. Her bachelor's degree is from UHV, and she earned a master's degree in technical communication from Texas
Tech University in 2004.
Testing Coordinator of the Academic Center-
Ernest Amador
Ernest Amador is the Testing Coordinator of the
Academic Center. While earning his bachelor’s degree
from UHV, Ernest worked at the Academic Center as a peer
writing tutor from Spring 2006 to Summer 2007. He is
currently pursuing a master’s degree from UHV.
Senior Secretary of the Academic Center- Christy Esse
Christy Esse is the
Academic Center Assistant. She has in the Academic Center for five
years. Christy has an
associate's degree from Rogers State University in northeast Oklahoma
and is currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in Communication at
UHV.
Peer Writing Tutors
Academic Center writing tutors are peers who
- have successfully completed
ENG 3430 with an A or B, have demonstrated
exceptional writing ability, or have
earned a bachelor’s degree;
- maintain a high GPA;
- possess good written and oral communication
skills; and
- have been recommended by instructors.
They receive continued training
throughout the semester. The Academic Center Manager
and the Academic Center Coordinator review

Subject-Area Tutors
Academic Center subject-area tutors are peers
who have demonstrated superiority in their subject area and have
been recommended by instructors. They receive direction from
faculty in the appropriate field. Call the Academic Center at (361)
