Academic Center
The Academic Center is a resource center for students, faculty, and staff. The Center offers writing assistance, subject-area tutoring, testing services, and information resources.
Writing Assistance. By appointment or on-line the Center staff review class papers, articles for publication, and university publications. Face-to-face tutoring is available in Victoria and Sugar Land. To find out how to have materials reviewed on-line, visit Online Tutoring.
Trained tutors review these documents, make suggestions for revision, and discuss techniques for analyzing and revising writing. Submit Documents Here!
Subject-Area Tutoring. In response to
student or instructors’ requests, the Center also offers subject area tutoring in
mathematics, computer science, and biology during some semesters. Students may discuss
concerns related to courses that are in progress.
Testing Services. The Center also provides
academic testing services in Victoria for UHV students (correspondence and practice
TExES/ExCET exams) and on behalf of UHV faculty (makeup exams). To schedule a test
session, individuals can call (361) 570-4288. The THEA Quick Test is offered periodically
during each semester, and the TExES is provided four to six times per year.
The TExES iBT test is also available.
Information Resources. The Center maintains a comprehensive
website that contains writing and ESL resources, including such items as APA and
MLA documentation and grammar.

The Academic Center's hours of operation vary by service. Please visit the following links:
- Face-to-Face Tutoring/Writing Assistance. Appointments are needed for the Academic Center's face-to-face writing review service. Appointments are not needed for online tutoring.
- Subject-Area Tutoring. Includes what subjects are being tutored, what hours the tutoring is available, and where.
- Testing Services. Appointments are needed for the Academic Center's testing services.
