Student Success Center Exercises
Exercise 1: Choosing the Correct Preposition: In this exercise, you will identify and circle the correct preposition for each sentence. An answer key is included at the end of the exercise.
Exercise 2: Understanding Prepositions: This exercise is composed of several passages. As you read through the passages, circle all of the prepositions, and underline all of the prepositional phrases.
Exercise 3: Working with Problem Pairs: This exercise is composed of two parts. In part A, you will need to circle the correct preposition(s) for each sentence. In part B, you will need to circle the prepositions that need to be eliminated to make the sentence correct. If the wrong preposition is used, mark through the one used in the sentence and replace with a correct preposition. An answer key is included at the end of the exercise.
Exercise 4: Writing with Prepositions: In this exercise, you'll write your own paragraphs. It will be up to you to determine the proper use of prepositions. Once you have completed this exercise, be sure to bring it to the Student Success Center so that one of the peer writing tutors can look over the paragraphs or story.
