Discussion

Harry Bashaw stated the protocol and instructions for Adobe Connect and welcomed all attendees to the October staff council meeting. He announced that enrollment for spring attendance is very important and that recruitment and transfer students are a prime target for attendance. Reverse articulation with WCJC and HCC where UHV courses can count towards associate degrees on their records will help in attracting students to UHV.

Harry also said that HCC-Katy has been very gracious in proving space for us. Recruiters will be on campus with the students that they will be recruiting and this will be a good move.

He reminded staff about concert tickets that can be picked up at the kiosk in the center building for the joint 40th anniversary of UHV and Victoria Symphony. These free tickets are available for employees and family to attend the concert on Oct. 19th.

Conclusions

Spring enrollments are high priority.

Staff Wellness

30 minutes

Melissa Jersild, Chair of Wellness Committee/ Karen Pantel, Benefits/HRMS Manager

Discussion

Melissa Jersild gave the Mission Statement for the Health and Wellness Committee. The Mission Statement is: “To motivate UHV staff with knowledge and engaging on/off campus activities which are directly related to physical, social and mental health.”

Karen Pantel explained about wellness leave. Full-time benefits eligible staff employees, who have been employed for at least six (6) months, are eligible to be granted eight (8) hours of Wellness Leave per year after completing a Health Risk Assessment that can be found by accessing your personal UnitedHealthCare (UHC) account at https://www.myuhc.com/member/prewelcome.do?currentLanguageFromPreCheck=en , and completing the Physician’s Certification of Routine Physical Exam Affidavit for Wellness Leave form located at: http://www.uhv.edu/hr/forms/HRA-PhysicianCertificationAffidavit.pdf
Take this to the doctor and have him fill it out; then take it to HR and they approve it. It will expire a year after it has been entered into your account and can be used like vacation. It needs to be taken in four or eight hour increments. Karen Pantel and Deborah Westbrook are going to work on asking for discounts to area gyms.

Discussion

Staff Cookbook, Potluck luncheon, and a 5K were discussed  and whether to use the funds for staff appreciation or community projects. A motion was made by Vicki Fitzpatrick to create a cookbook and Karen Pantel seconded the motion.

A separate committee was suggested for service projects. Suggested a volunteer instead of a committee may be ok. Amy Hatmaker is willing to head up the effort. Please contact her for service projects and to volunteer.

Employee Morale & Training was discussed and how to proceed. Here is a link to the staff morale website:  http://www.bauer.uh.edu/faculty/mtc/. The website has details on how UH boosted staff morale. A few of the different ideas mentioned – Marble Slab ice cream social, staff picnic/BBQ, fishing tournament, poker tournament, and bus rides to football games. Harry recommended that staff send e-mails to the staff council mailbox staffcouncil@uhv.edu with their ideas. Harry brought up the morale survey questions and said he will send out the questions that were used last year to see if they need to be customized for our campus. Please share ideas through the staff council mailbox staffcouncil@uhv.edu .

The October birthday celebration was mentioned. Harry will bring food and Erika said the Provost’s office would help with the October party this year. The birthday list will be reviewed to see who sponsors what month.

SugarLand and Cinco Ranch said they celebrate their employee birthdays at their own campuses.
