The meeting was called to order by Miles Harrison, Chair, at 2:05 PM on September 16, 2010.
After review of the minutes, Emily motioned for the minutes to be approved and Matt seconded the motion.
Presidents Cabinet Update: Miles reported to the staff to begin using Aramark at Jaguar Hall for meals as soon as it opens. He gave information on the meal tickets that can be purchased for breakfast, lunch or dinner. A flyer was passed around with the different meal plans and contact information for the cafeteria. He stated that the School of Nursing will be holding a health care reform lecture for those that would like to attend. A flyer with the information was passed around. Lastly, he mentioned that the One for All campaign has now kicked off for the new fiscal year. He encouraged everyone to take part and help support UHV. For more details, contact Robin Cadle.
University Update: Dr. Rice stated that the freshmen are getting settled into the new school year. She encouraged all staff to be patient with all the new students and with facilities, since they are working hard to complete Jaguar Hall. Move in for the hall will be set for September 18th, anyone who can volunteer to help will be appreciated. Food service will begin the Monday after the move-in and encouraged us to take advantage of the many dining options. She has received great feedback from the new students that they are really enjoying their new friends and professors. We have reached a record enrollment of 4, 146 students. We have increased our semester credit hours from 29,000 from last year to 34,580.
Guest Speaker: Lindsey Koch, Director of Student Life and Services, was our guest speaker from Student Services. She stated that there are 220 freshmen and 82 sophomores this year. They had a great time during Welcome Week, which was geared to all the new students with several different activities throughout the week. She was not sure when the soccer field would be up and running but hoping soon. She is getting ready for the move-in coming up on September 18th. She stated that they are working on getting discounts around town for the students. They are creating a mentoring program, which will be upheld by the newly created UHV Transit Team. Lindsey would like to see the student organizations increase and any assistance would be appreciated from staff in mentoring a group or organization. She would like staff to help get involved with making the freshmen and sophomores feel more at home by being more welcoming, communicating with them, hiring student workers for your departments, and by coming out and enjoying the many events that will be held in the near future.
Old Business: The flamingo, Francis, was passed onto Jamie Lincke from Team President. Winners of the water bottle contest from the recent food drive. Francis will be placed in the Presidents office for viewing. Team President will also be rewarded with an ice cream party on October 15th for collecting the most food drive items.
New Business: Robin Cadle, Director ofStewardship and Planned Giving, from the office of University Advancement spoke to everyone about the One for All Campaign that is kicking off with the beginning of the fiscal year. She sent an email to all employees with the information about the campaign and sent a sign-up sheet via interoffice mail. You are able to give any amount of money and simply designate where the funds go. For more information, contact Robin Cadle or Anna Celum.
Corporate Cup Volunteers are needed, contact Laura Smith.
Chancellor Khator will be on campus for staff questions on September 28th from 11am-noon.
Sugar Land campus will host an open house on October 14th.
UHV Convocation will on September 27th at Victoria campus.
