Faculty Awards and Achievements
Teaching Excellence Award
Established in 1993, through an endowment to the University of Houston System, the Enron Teaching Excellence Award recognizes the importance of teaching to the mission of the University of Houston-Victoria (UHV). The award is given to a UHV faculty member nominated by students in the spring semester of each year in appreciation of their excellent teaching. The Teaching Excellence Award is not intended as a “teacher of the year” award; rather, it recognizes career achievements in teaching.
The Research and Scholarly Activity Excellence Award recognizes professors who have worked at the university for at least three years and have made outstanding research and scholarly contributions to their scientific and scholarly communities.
The Distinguished Faculty Service Award recognizes the significant, positive contributions UHV faculty make to UHV, and to local and regional communities. The award recognizes the work of UHV faculty as representatives of the university in various settings. Their effort includes activities such as making public appearances; consulting with business, government, and education organizations; serving on committees; and participating in student recruitment and job placement.
The Research Grant Awards are intended to further the educational mission of the university by contributing to faculty members’ ongoing professional development, to the advancement of knowledge in their professional fields and to the visibility and credibility of the university. The Research Grant Awards are for tenured and tenure-track faculty to support pilot projects that can lead to developing and submitting proposals to external agencies for significant grant funding. These are competitive awards and an estimated four awards will be granted annually.
Scholarship and research provide an intellectual foundation for faculty life at the University of Houston-Victoria. In order to encourage and support junior faculty (tenure-track, but not yet tenured), UHV, through the Provost’s Office, provides research and scholarship funding. The Junior Faculty Summer Research Grant makes salary stipends available for junior faculty to pursue promising research projects for one summer.
