Black History Month

In February, 2015, UHV will observe National Black History Month with on-campus exhibits and special community events. Along with Victoria College and the Black History Steering Committee, UHV will co-sponsor events such as the Black History Heritage Parade and Festival, a History poster contest for area fifth-grade students, and a Black History Month Poster Contest Reception.

Black History Month Celebration 2015

Fifth Grade Poster Contest

The University of Houston-Victoria will participate in the observance of Black History Month by co-sponsoring a poster contest that is open to all public, private and home-schooled fifth-grade students. The Black History Steering Committee and Victoria College will co-sponsor this event. Posters will be available for viewing during the month of February in the UHV Center Building.

Black History Month Reception

UHV, along with VC and the Black History Steering Committee, will host a reception honoring poster contest participants on Friday, February 13, at the University of Houston-Victoria. The winners of the poster contest will be announced. Top three winners in previous years received a Summer Camp Waiver from Victoria College and from $500 to $2,000 towards college tuition at the University of Houston-Victoria.

Black History Month Parade and Heritage Festival

The Parade will begin at 9 a.m. in front of Patti Welder Middle School, 1604 E. North Street, and will proceed to the Victoria Community Center, 2905 E. North Street. At 10 a.m., the Festival at the Community Center will begin.
