Parent Orientation

This year, UHV is holding several Parent Orientation sessions to provide families with answers to some of the most common questions they have immediately before and during their student’s first year as a college student. During this year’s Parent Orientation sessions, we’ll be discussing the transitions and challenges families and new college students might undergo this year, the support services the university offers to students and parents, and some of the ins and outs of paying for college.

You can attend Parent Orientation at the same time your student is taking part in Passport to UHV, the university’s advising and registration event for new freshmen. Students will register for their first semester of classes and learn what they need to know to take the next steps successfully. Passport to UHV is your student’s gateway to the new world of college and an important step on the journey of becoming a Jaguar.

After your student has signed up for a Passport to UHV session, we’ll be contacting you by letter with further information about the session times and registration.

Each attendee will receive a UHV parent T-shirt and car decal.

We ask that you not bring smaller children since we have no facilities for entertaining them, and the information isn’t likely to interest them or keep them engaged.

Accommodations in the Residence Hall

If you’d like to preview (or re-live) the dorm experience, on-campus accommodations are available for incoming students and families for either the night before or the night after the Parent Orientation. For students and parents staying at Jaguar Hall, sheets, towels, a pillow and a blanket will be provided.

Accommodation rates are $54 a night for a room. Room rates are the same for single- or double-occupancy. Each room has one or two single beds, desks and chairs, and includes linens and a private bath. No other amenities are provided.
