UHV GRADUATE ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:

1. A complete application (available at: www.applytexas.org)
2. An official transcript from each college attended sent directly from each institution to UHV; electronic SPEEDE transcripts are preferred
3. Request appropriate GRE exam scores must be mailed directly from the Educational Testing Service to UHV
4. Admissions Index of 1400 or higher*

MS PUBLISHING ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:

Admission to the Master of Science in Publishing program is based on an evaluation by the Program’s admissions committee of the following information:

1. 1-2 page essay that states the applicant’s reasons for applying to the program and the applicant's career goals.
2. Two letters of recommendation.
3. A writing sample

* The admission index results from a combination of the following:

1. Grade point average (GPA) over at least the last 60 hours multiplied by 200.
2. Verbal score plus quantitative score on the Graduate Record Examination (GRE).

Students with an admission index below the 1,400 minimum but not lower than 1,300 may be admitted by the dean of the school, considering scores on the analytic portion of the GRE (or equivalent), grades in particularly relevant courses, or other relevant indicators of a student’s potential to succeed in a given graduate degree program. Such admission may be conditional or probationary with initial coursework specified.

Admission index formula for GRE tests taken prior to August 1, 2011, or GMAT or MAT tests
Grade point average (GPA) x 200 + (GRE Verbal and Quantitative combined scores, or equivalent scores on the GMAT or MAT test)
Example: 2.5 GPA x 200 + (400 Verbal + 400 Quantitative) = 1,300 index

Admission index formula for GRE tests taken on or after August 1, 2011:
Grade point average (GPA) x 200 + (15 x (GRE Verbal and Quantitative combined score – 260)
Example: 2.5 GPA x 200 + (15 x (145 Verbal + 145 Quantitative – 260) = 950 index
