Travel and Re-entry

If you find that during your studies you must return to your home country or to another destination outside the United States for a short time (less than 5 months), you will be able to return to this country as long as there are no other reasons for you to be denied entry. 

Upon re-entry, you must present a valid foreign passport, a valid unexpired visa, and either a new Form I-20 or your Form I-20 with current information that has been properly signed on page 3 by the Designated School Official.

Religious Holy Days

Per Texas state law, students may be excused from attending class and other required activities, including examinations, for the observance of a religious holy day, including travel for that purpose.  "Religious holy day" shall mean a holy day observed by a religion whose places of worship are exempt from property taxation under Section 11.20 of the U.S. Federal Tax Code.  Students are encouraged to notify instructors about upcoming religious holy days early in the semester to provide adequate time for planning and any necessary schedule adjustments.

A student whose absence is excused on these grounds will be allowed to take an examination or complete an assignment within one (1) week of the excused absence.  A student who is excused under this section may not be penalized for the absence, but the instructor may appropriately respond if the student fails to satisfactorily complete the assignment(s) or examination.  (Texas Education Code, Subsection 51.911)

Making Travel Arrangement to Return On Time

Students often return home during semester breaks and fail to return to the United States before the first class day of the new semester.  We request that you please do not do this.   Prior to travel make sure your registration for the new semester is accepted and your tuition and fees have been paid. Keep the DSO informed by email if unexpected things happen either abroad or in Texas (for example, hurricanes) that may delay your re-entry.
