New International Student Check-In

Arrival and Check-In

Check-in Dates are scheduled to be during the entire week prior to first class day of each semester.

Before You Arrive
Students should make arrangements for housing prior to arrival in the United States.  On-campus housing is available at the Victoria, Texas campus only.  There are many apartment rental companies who will help arrange rental of an apartment through online services.  Also, plan to set up your mode of transportation if your program is located in the Sugar Land or Katy, Texas campus where public transportation is limited.

Be sure to carry your passport, visa, and I-20 documents with you in a safe place if you travel by air, and do not pack these items in your bags.  You will need them for the port of entry official to review before you get your luggage after arrival.

Plan Travel Dates
Please be aware that United States Department of Homeland Security regulations state that holders of F-1 nonimmigrant visas will not be admitted to the U.S. until a date 30 days or less before your program start date, as listed in item 5 on your I-20.  Consider this date carefully when making travel arrangements.  If additional testing is required prior to registration, try to come as early as possible to ensure your testing completion.  Do not plan to arrive after the mandatory orientation session date.

Check In Upon Arrival
Please notify our staff when you arrive in the United States.  You may email international@uhv.edu to let us know when you have reached the U.S.  You may want to visit the UHV campus you plan to attend and get familiar with where everything is located.  You will want to arrive in plenty of time to settle into your living arrangements and set up banking and transportation prior to the first class day.

International Student Orientation Sessions are mandatory!  Please make travel plans to arrive in the United States a few days before the session.
