UHV Student Accounts

  • Student accounts provide access to student email, on-site access to the computer labs, off-site access to the library databases and access to online courses through the Blackboard system.

  • Student accounts are automatically created when a student applies, without students having to complete an account application.

  • Student accounts are not related to MyUHV accounts. MyUHV accounts are separate and distinct accounts.

Usernames

The student account username is the student's seven-digit MyUHV ID. The MyUHV ID is assigned by the Admissions Office and is found on the student's admissions letter.

Passwords

New Student accounts are created with pre-expired passwords meaning the student must change the initial password to a new password before the account can be used.

If you have have NEVER logged into UHV Student Email before, your password will be your date of birth in the format of MMDDYYYY.

New accounts will have the password set to "mmddyyx!" where:

  • mm is the student's two digit birth month
  • dd is the student's two digit birth day
  • yy is the student's two digit birth year
  • x is the first character of the student's last name in lowercase-letter format
  • ! is the exclamation point character or Shift+1 on the keyboard

Leading zeros are required for those months or days that are single digit.

Please see the Password Guidelines and Changing Your Password documentation.

A password lifetime is 90 days. That means that students are required to change their passwords every 90 days from the date of their last password change. Note: The system keeps a password history file. Students cannot re-use their previous nine passwords.

Example

John B. Smith has a MyUHV ID of 1234567, and was born on March 4, 1981. His username would be 1234567. His initial password would be 03041981s!.

Email Addresses

The convention used in assigning the email address is to use your last name plus first initial followed by "@uhv.edu". If that email address is already in use by someone else, then your last name plus first and middle initials will be used. If you do not have a middle name, then a number will be added to the end of the last name plus first name so that a unique email address is created. Likewise if you do have a middle name and the address using last name plus first and middle initials is also in use, then the next available number will be added to the end.

For example, John J. Doe is a new student, but the email address DoeJ@uhv.edu is already assigned to Jane J. Doe. John would then be assigned DoeJJ@uhv.edu, unless that was already in use. In that case the next address would be DoeJJ2@uhv.edu and so on.
