  1. Where is the Fall commencement ceremony held?
    The fall commencement ceremony will be held at the Merrell Center in Katy, Texas.

  2. Where exactly is the Merrell Center?
    Please refer to the following link for a map and directions. Directions

  3. What should I wear for the ceremony?
    Please use good judgment when choosing your attire for the ceremony. You will be standing for a considerable amount of time, so choose your footwear carefully. Recommended attire for men is a button down shirt with tie and dress slacks. For women, a dress or slacks/skirt and blouse would be appropriate.

  4. Where and when can I purchase commencement regalia and order announcements and rings?
    For information on purchasing your commencement regalia, rings, and announcements, please visit the Regalia and Invitations page.

  5. What can I bring into the ceremony with me?
    You will not be permitted to carry anything into the ceremony with you. Please be advised to leave purses, cameras, phones, etc. either in your vehicle or with family members. The Merrell Center will not be held responsible for any items left behind during or after the ceremony.

  6. How do I qualify for academic honors for the commencement ceremony?
    Information regarding the requirements for academic honors can be found in the UHV catalog.

  7. I believe I'm graduating with academic honors. What do I do?
    All students who qualify for honors will be contacted in mid-November through their UHV student email address in regards to their academic honors status. Only undergraduate students receiving bachelor degrees are eligible for academic honors. Students will have the opportunity to pick up their honor cords at the Victoria campus or they will be distributed on the day of the ceremony at check in time. If you still have questions after you receive your email, you may contact Student Records at graduation@uhv.edu. If you are a member of an honor society within your academic school or program, please contact your advisor/sponsor for more information.

  8. Is there a special place/seating for wheelchairs?
    Please advise your guests who will need any type of special arrangements to visit the Guest Services Booth located in the main lobby of the Merrell Center. Also, the south and southwest sidewalks of the Merrell Center have access areas for wheelchairs.

  9. If I’m graduating with a master’s degree, do I wear my hood into the ceremony?
    Please read the information within the Master's Hood Information link (also in the left navigation). If you have additional questions, please see your marshal when you arrive for the ceremony.

  10. Will guests need tickets for the Commencement ceremony at the Merrell Center?
    Guests attending the commencement ceremony at the Merrell Center will not need tickets to attend.

  11. On which side of my mortar board do I wear my tassel?
    If you are receiving a bachelor's degree, you will wear your tassel on the right side and will move it to the left when you are instructed to do so at the conclusion of the ceremony. If you are receiving a master's degree, you will wear your tassel on the left side, where it will remain.
