Welcome to the University of Houston-Victoria (UHV) Office of Disability Services (DS). In accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, the ADA Amendments Act of 2008, and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, UHV is committed to providing quality services to students who have permanent and temporary disabilities. Our overall goal is to ensure that all students have equal access to the programs and activities offered by the university.
These webpages are designed to provide you with information about the support services available to students with disabilities at UHV. We encourage prospective students to visit our campus any time or call our office to discuss services. Whether you are taking classes on campus, or by internet, we can provide the support you will need to have equal access to the educational opportunities offered at UHV.
The Disability Services staff serves as a liaison between students and faculty, staff, and community agencies to facilitate and advocate for our students, and assist them in maximizing their potential while helping them develop and maintain independence.
We believe that all students who attend UHV should have the same opportunities to be successful in higher education. In order to minimize the impact of the disability in the academic setting, we arrange for reasonable accommodations, auxiliary aids, and support services based on the specific needs of each student.
Services and support are available on campus for students who have a documented disability which significantly affects one or more major life functions. You should consider registering with Disability Services if:
- You have a documented disability that significantly impacts you in the academic setting
- You received services through Special Education or Section 504 in high school
- You are a client of the Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services, Commission for the Blind, or other related agency
- You were registered with Disability Services at another college
The Office of Disability Services is located in the UHV Counseling Center, University West 132 B. To inquire about our services, please contact Cheryl Worley, Manager of Disability Services and At-Risk Programs: by phone at 361-570-4287 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
