Multicultural Clinical Outreach Services for UHV Students

UCC staff have been involved in broadly defining and delivering multiculturally competent counseling since 1985 in the US and elsewhere. We proudly continue this practice and commitment here at UHV, on all campuses. Therefore, we positively assist all UHV student clients with any/all psychosocial dimensions inherent in their concerns. This includes, but may not be limited to, matters of racial and ethnic identity development; cultural adjustment; language; class/caste; sexual identity; gender identity; religious/spiritual identity. We offer expertise on many identity issues, resolving current and anticipated loss issues due to immigration and emigration, and; assist survivors of all hate crimes and other assaults to heal and advocate as needed or desired. Accordingly, external and internal patterns of racism, sexism, ageism, homophobia occurring alone or imbedded in relationship and family concerns; academic problems; depression and anxiety issues are addressed in brief therapy models. Clinical services are available in Spanish and code switching is encouraged.

Multicultural Consultation Services for UHV Student Groups, Faculty, Staff, and Administration

The above stakeholders are entitled to receive at will* confidential consultation on a host of possible intercultural and multicultural individual issues and/or group dynamics, including, but not limited to
  • Culture and issues of adjustment, academic, and socio emotional health and wellness on campus,
  • Cultural sets and behavioral issues among and between students, staff, and/or faculty
  • Cultural facets and solution strategies inherent in addressing the recruitment, retention, and graduation of traditional and non-traditional students, per NESARC data (Blanco et al., 2008),
  • Identifying and addressing micro aggressions in staff, faculty, and/or student communications,
  • Mental health implications of informal or formal surveys of cultural climate on campus (unit-wise or larger), and,
  • Whatever else you would like our individual or collective multicultural "two cents" on.
*Please note that the UCC will always attempt to respond as fast as possible to provide at will consultation, but it is respectfully requested that where possible, requests be identified by the sender as "emergent", "urgent", and/or "at soonest convenience" to help us gauge the appropriate response time and the sender whatever lead time is available or appropriate.
