Certified Mail Process
|
Certified Mail allows the sender to purchase a certificate of mailing which provides evidence of the date that your mail was presented to the Postal Service for mailing. It can only be purchased at the time of mailing and don't lose it! It is the only official record available. The sender has the option to request a return receipt or an electronic return receipt. When you use Certified Mail, you receive a receipt stamped with date of mailing. A unique article number allows you to verify delivery online. Electronic Return Receipt (ERR) requested provides proof of delivery for Certified Mail. Using the electronic method the cost is only $1.00, so you save a $1.20. The green return receipt card that normally goes on the back of your article or envelope costs $2.20. (Note: if requesting EER service the mail room has a stamp to place on your article to request, no green card is required).
