Certified Mail Procedure
Certified Mail allows the sender to purchase a certificate of mailing which provides evidence of the date that your mail was presented to the Postal Service for mailing. It can only be purchased at the time of mailing and don't lose it! It is the only official record available.
The sender has the option to request a return receipt or an electronic return receipt. When you use Certified Mail, you receive a receipt stamped with date of mailing. A unique article number allows you to verify delivery online.
Electronic Return Receipt (ERR) provides proof of delivery for Certified Mail. Using the electronic method saves you $1.20, but there is no paper receipt.
Note: If requesting ERR service, the mail room has a stamp to place on your article, no green return receipt card is required.
- The mailroom has Certified Mail Receipt on hand (PS Form 3800).
- Fill out the "Sent To" portion at the bottom with the destination address.
- Bring to the mailroom and we will fill out the postage section and apply ERR stamp if requested.
